What Is A Babysitter Co-op?

By Robin McClure, About.com

Definition: A Babysitter Co-op is really nothing more than an organized collection of babysitting resources for parents. A babysitter co-op is often established by churches, hospitals, schools, and neighborhoods. The co-op may be established with certain criteria; but not always, so be sure to check. A co-op may make sure that all on the list are over a certain age, have basic first aid training, or have gone through a babysitter safety and preparedness course. In the event of a community babysitter co-op, sometimes a city or church will hold a babysitter course for free for individuals so that they will then be recruited for the list.
