More Dads Valuing Family Time
Monday January 5, 2009
In today's overharried, rushed world, it should come as no surprise that more dads are valuing precious family time over anything else--including money or prestige. In a Radcliffe Public Policy study, 82 percent of men ages 20-39 described family time as their main focus and 71 percent of these men said they would even give up some of their pay to make sure they had more time with their family. This trend is a departure from past generations, as dads are increasingly becoming aware of their importance and contribution to their children and spouse.

You know what surprises me — that the study only asks men under 40. I bet if they polled dads over 40 they’d see an even greater number who value family time. Today, many many men (including my husband) didn’t become dads until after 40…and that’s about the time they realize that there’s more to life than material things and careers.
