Back-to-School: Comfort, Practicality Rule School Dress Code Attire

Wednesday August 6, 2008
School around here in Texas begins on Aug. 25, and my schedule for mid-August calls for registering three kids at their respective schools and grades. Along with school supplies is the dress code. We don't have school uniforms, but the school district requires things like sleeves on shirts, hems no shorter than fingertip length, and other reasonable requirements (at least in my book). School clothes are being featured in stores and sale circulars, and many of them are quite cute! But before you rush out and buy school clothes for elementary-age or preschool age kids, keep in mind practicality and comfort when choosing outfits. If your kid can't tie his shoes, don't send him everyday in laced sneakers (the velcro ones work great!). If your daughter can't pull up her own tights after using the restroom, find a different way to cover those legs! Remember that regardless of your child's age, the number of youngsters outweigh adults and that teachers need to be there for all the kids and not doing personal wardrobe assistance for every tyke! (I KNOW teachers out there will thank me!)
