An occasional babysitter can provide you and your partner with a fun and well-deserved night out on the town. Or, it can wreak total havoc on the occasion if you're constantly getting calls from the kids or texts from the babysitter about all sorts of problems or so-called emergencies. Whether it's about a teen babysitter who doesn't know how to change a diaper, invites a houseful of friends over, or starts a small kitchen fire trying to cook macaroni and cheese, or involves an older sitter who falls asleep on the couch right leaving kids unsupervised, everyone has a funny (or not) story to share!
Bab babysitter extraordinaire
- My husband once got a player from his hockey team (he coached, the kid was 20) to babysit our daughter last minute (our son needed stitched at the ER). We came home to her in the crib screaming, him asleep on the couch, and our garage REEKED of marijuana. We woke him up coming in and he claimed he fell asleep when she did... and denied anything to do with smoking pot. (we FOUND a small joint hidden in our garage). So apparently he put her in her crib, smoked some pot, and passed out on the couch. I called his parents (they lived in the US, we live in Canada) and told them what had happened. My husband cut him from the hockey team for drug use. It was terrible. He had been staying at our house during the hockey season, and when my son got hurt he said he would watch the baby, so we took our son to the ER trusting the guy, who had seemed great. Urgh, was awful.

Unaware Mom
- I hired a babysitter whose parents I knew, and thought she would be wonderful. Little did I know (until later) that she put my two young kids in the backseat of my car and went cruising for boys. That was the one and only time I hired her!
