Hard-working, energetic, caring and ever-so-talented caregivers have a way of building character, instilling values, and capturing a family's heart as a result. Maybe that is why films focusing on child caregivers are an endearing theme in many movies and TV series. Here's a look at top movie nannies you'd love to have care for your precious tots. (And here's betting that there are many real-life nannies and providers who outshine these film stars with their true talents!)

1. Mary Poppins

Who possibly could ever top the ever-beloved and forever timeless Mary Poppins (a.k.a. Julie Andrews) from 1964? After all, she sings those unforgettable musical classics, such as "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Chim-Chim-Cheree" and dances and floats with a magical umbrella to boot. What kid wouldn't want her to entertain them? They'll be wailing when the folks come home!

2. The Sound of Music

Most agree that it's almost impossible to tire of the Sound of Music (1965) and its endearing cast and musical radiance. Julie Andrews once again stars as Maria, a woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to a Naval officer widow. The transformation of the family is nothing short of heartwarming, and the scenery is beyond breathtaking. Maria may not have the skills of a professional governess, but her rapport with kids makes up for the difference!

3. Nanny McPhee

Okay, in the beginning she's really scary and pretty ugly, but just look at the magical transformation Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) instills in kids under her watch. After all, the brood of undisciplined tots has driven away 17 nannies previously, so magic is in order, after all! And, in the end, she is an absolutely dazzling nanny--inside and out.

4. The Brady Bunch and The Brady Bunch Movie

The popular 70s TV show makes a graceful transition to the big screen (1995) in this light-hearted feature. And sweet o' simple Alice, who serves as a housekeeper/nanny/extended family member/resident advisor, always steals the show and your hearts.

5. Uptown Girls

This charming movie (2003) features a young woman (Brittany Murphy) and precocious girl (Dakota Fanning), who begin a disastrous nanny-child relationship that develops into a close and life-changing bond that teaches each other about needing others, relationships and love. Nanny Molly Gunn (Murphy) is a spoiled and totally irresponsible diva until being forced to take a job, which is where the caregiver part comes in. Her charm and sense of fun would make any kids want Molly as a caregiver.

6. Supernanny TV Show

In the new world of reality TV, Jo Frost as supernanny is a fascinating show that teaches lessons about how to calm even the most out-of-control toddler and sooth savage six-year-olds. The supernanny works with different families to combat day-to-day obstacles, including teaching parents must-have parenting skills. In the end, the families became much more harmonious and effective. Wouldn't you just love the supernanny to come in--if not more discreetly--and organize your own brood?

7. The Nanny TV Show

The Nanny premiered in 1993, and ran for six seasons. Its charm is due to good casting and plot lines that pit blue-blood against blue-collar. Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a bold and outspoken, yet tenderhearted caregiver of three kids. The chemistry is what made this series a hit, and some critics even boldly compared it to the "I Love Lucy" of the 1990s. Catch an old re-run and enjoy a good giggle or guffaw!
