Top 10 Signs The Spring Season Has Sprung ... And So Have Your Kids

By Robin McClure, About.com

What are 10 sure-fire signs of spring when you have kids? Here is the countdown to the spring season.

1. Spring Season Means The Kid's Clothes No Longer Fit...Overnight!

Your kids have sprung up...literally overnight, and those late-summer bargains from the end of last year that literally hung off your clan now seem to fit, or, gasp...no way they can be too small, can they? What's that return policy anyway? Sounds like it's time to go shopping.

2. The New Black Is Turquoise, Coral, Lavender, Mint Green, Fuschia and More

Your kids suddenly look dark and dingy in their grays, blacks, and brown fashions that were ever-so-hip even a month ago. Color is the essence of the spring season, and think Robin-egg blue, coral, pink, fushia, lavender, mint green, and orange as color combinations to prove it. Your kids will love these strong bold colors for the spring season.

3. Spring Season Has Attitudes That Rise In Proportion To Temperatures

Spring fever has officially set in. Parents with tweens to teens just "know" this, but attitude grows in proportion to the warming weather. It seems as the temperature rises, then so do the brain cells that dictate that you are hopelessly out of sync and kids absolutely do know it all...at least in their own minds.

4. The Pitter-Patter Becomes Flip-Flop and Wedge

Flip-flops are still the rage in warm weather. Is there any store anywhere that isn't promoting sales and racks and racks of cute and appealingly cheap flip-flops? But new this year are the wedge sandals. Between chic flip-flops and ultra hip wedges, what else is a gal to need?

5. Spring Fever May Signal Need for Behavior Books & Approaches

Just like new foals snort, gallop, kick out their legs and just run without reason--kids get spring fever as well. That may be fine at home or at enrichment activities, but teachers still want their students to show focus and discipline. Here are some books about behavior if your "coltish kid" needs to settle down some this spring season.

6. Enrichment Activities Abound: How Much Is The Right Amount?

The previously unused and overgrown fields are now abounding with kids playing all sorts of seasonal sports this spring season...T-ball, soccer, kickball, flag football...you name it, they're playing it! It's great to see kids exercising and having fun, but how much is the right amount?

7. Something's In The Air: Seasonal Allergies

Your beautiful kids all of sudden have dark circles under their eyes and runny noses? Yup, it's spring season, all right. Seasonal allergies abound, but there are treatments that can help turn that droop back into a gallop!

8. Summer Fun and Summer Enrichment Ideas/Activities Are Being Promoted Everywhere!

Summer can present some planning challenges for working parents of young children. Swim lessons, special camps, amusement parks, and special field trips can require planning, transportation, work schedule flexibility, and affordability. But, there are plenty of solutions for some summer fun and child care providers and other groups are busy planning an array of activities that promise fun in the sun.

9. Safety Focuses On Outdoors and Field Trips

Safety focus changes to areas like boating and swimming safety, safety during field trips and outings, bikes, and outdoor play. Be sure to refresh yourself on safety needs for your children during the warm-weather months.

10. Vacation Planning Begins In Earnest

Spring season is the perfect time for summer plans, and don't forget about ensuring your outings are kid-friendly. And, if you're planning to entertain special guests, here are ways to ensure houseguests and children feel right at home.
