Families Encouraged To Bring Kids To Polls On Election Day

Show Children Voting Process First-Hand

By Robin McClure, About.com

The White House Project is encouraging families to bring along someone special when votes are cast on election day. The campaign, "Go vote. Go run. Go lead. Go girl.", has been launched to encourage adults to create a positive opportunity to speak with kids about the importance of voting, election issues, and the candidates and especially to get women to vote and become involved. The head of the project is Marie Wilson, who helped create the now-nationally celebrated "Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day."

The organization provides election day and election season activities, and also emphasizes facts such as that in the 2000 presidential election, more than 15 million women 18 to 34 did not vote. The campaign stresses changing this behavior and voting habits through encouragement and education.

The White House Project is a nonpartisan, nonprofit group dedicated to advancing women's leadership in the United States. Visit VoteRunLead.org and click on "What's Happening" for Election Day ideas and activities.
