Before You Choose Summer Fun For Your Youngster

By Robin McClure, About.com

Where are you NOT reading and hearing about fun summer camps and enrichment programs for youth? From swim lessons to sports clinics and summer fun activities at daycare programs, churches and rec centers, youth planners have been organizing summer fun camps for months. Have you made your plans yet? Here are some top summer fun choices to consider.

Day Care Offers Summer Fun, Food, and Freedom!

Most daycare facilities feature summer fun-crazed warm-weather activities to keep children enrolled in their program, and by the numbers of happy youngsters participating, it works! Daycares typically package weekly summer fun sessions involving field trips; swimming, water parks or splash days; art and music enrichment offerings; sports outings; and more.

Recreation Centers Are On The Ball for Summer Fun

Cities with recreation centers and other municipal facilities often offer camps and weekly activities for local youth. After all, existing gyms, parks, sports areas and green spaces offer an assortment of summer fun activities that can tailor to various age groups and interests. Some area cities partner with school districts to be able to utilize school and city facilities to provide affordable and safe fun summer programs.

Summer Fun Camps Don't Have To Be About Camping

This summer, everything seems to focus on summer fun "camps" and truth be told, many have nothing to do with camping. There are sports camps, swimming camps, cheerleading camps, dance camps, and of course, there really still is camping! Summer is a great time for your child to explore a newly-developed skill or try something new without the need to be committed to the activity for a longer period of time.

Schools/Colleges Offer Enrichment & Academics for Summer Fun

Don't overlook public and private school districts and local colleges when considering fun summer enrichment and academic activities. Tarrant County College in Texas annually offers a "College for Kids" program that provides for a 3-week education experience on campus. Many public school districts have jumped on board with summer encrichment by offering in-house enrichment programs that combine learning and summer fun.

Outdoor Exploration Remains Popular Summer Fun

Girl scouts, boy scouts, YMCA youth camps, church camps, and specialty camps all over the country continue to attract youth to what they love best: learning and playing in in an outdoor environment. Summer fun camps typically offer such experiences as fishing, canoeing, cooking out, sleeping under the stars, horseback riding, archery, swimming, and more.
