Acute Otitis Media

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Aute Otitis Media is defined as a middle ear infection and is the most common bacterial illness in children. Most children with AOM have significant ear pain. Antibiotics are commonly prescribed to treat the infection; however, the American Academy of Pediatrics urges caution in prescribing antibiotics. That's because each course of antibiotic given to a child can make future infections more difficult to treat. If you think your child has an ear infection, schedule an appointment with the doctor.
