How Active Should Kids Be?

By Robin McClure, About.com

Question: How Active Should Kids Be?

Answer: How much physical activity is your child receiving each day? The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that children should get at least 30 minutes of physical exercise each day, every day of the week. The AAP also recommends no more than wo hours of watching TV or playing video games each day. In addition, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education is increasing the recommended amount of activity to at least 60 minutes a day. Studies show that even if your child is involved with only passive exercise--washing the dog or planting flowers--doing anything other than just sitting around decreases the chance of being overweight.
