Child Safety - Suffocation Tragedies Aren't Limited to Infants

From Robin McClure, About.com GuideOctober 7, 2009

Twice within a week , tragedy has struck Texas families who had young children die of accidental suffocation from after becoming trapped between the space between the bed and wall.  One death was a 2-month-old girl; the second was a 2-year-old boy.  While new parents are taught and reminded about the dangers of SIDS and infants being placed to sleep on their backs, many families mistakenly believe that toddlers are past the risks of accidental suffocation.  October is SIDS awareness month, and I can't think of a better time of reinforcing safety of children when being put down to sleep--regardless of age.
