Nannies no longer yielding the hiring power

Continued downsizing, layoffs, and tight family budgets are creating a power shift when it comes to nanny jobs. While nannies continue to perform a quality and often beloved child care service to families, many of the perks and excesses that were provided along with a nice salary are coming to an end. And struggling working parents say it's about time.

Many families on tight budgets who are looking for more affordable in-home care are going with the au pair program in this economy. The average cost comes out to about $320 per week for about 45 hours a week of care. The company is also offering a Peace of Mind Guarantee, which provides a financial safeguard against unexpected job loss. I am a Local Childcare Coordinator with Cultural Care, and I also am a host family. Some host families provide extras, such as cell phones and cars, but these are extra perks that are not required. The au pair program also helps provide support to help au pairs and families have a successful working relationship.
