Can You Afford Not to Have Quality Child Care?
Wednesday January 7, 2009
An acquaintance of mine recently pulled her 8-year-old out of after-school care, citing that he "was old and responsible enough" to walk home and stay there until she got off work at 5 p.m. She asked if I agreed. Personally, no way! But, I know that today's tough times are putting a squeeze on family budgets and organized child care is often among the first to go until conditions improve. But can you afford not to have it either?

Finding day care at affordable prices is extremely tough! It is never cheap, but can be near impossible if you have a child that requires special types of treatment. For example, our daughter, Natalie, spent about 3 months in a hip spica cast. No one would have the time necessary to really care for her as she needed. My wife stayed home to take care of her.
