Preparing for Disaster Means Planning for Worst, Hoping for Best

From Robin McClure, About.com GuideSeptember 2, 2008

I live in North Texas, where the threat of a tornado happens several times every year, and remnants of hurricanes can bring brutal rains and winds. As a result, my entire family becomes glued to the television during weather concerns such as the recent hurricane Gustav and approaching storms Anna and Ike. My daughter says she wants to become a meterologist since she is so captivated by weather, and always makes sure our family is prepared for any type of disaster. For now, we're all breathing a sigh of relief that Gustav has passed, but my planner-daughter has put the umbrellas out by the front door to be prepared for the changing weather!
