Planning Ahead Means Preparing for the Worst
Thursday September 28, 2006
My heart sank when I heard the horrible news of a gunman who held six girls hostage--killing one of them--at a Colorado school this week. I work in public education, where parents and educators working together to improve school safety is a top concern. But, the news reminds me, once again, that there is really no such thing as being too safe when it comes to our kids. Parents should plan ahead to prepare for the worst, teach (and reinforce) kids about abduction dangers, and ask a lot of questions about what your child's daycare or school has in place in terms of a crisis plan. It's not a fun topic to even think about, much less discuss, but it's an unfortunate reality in today's world.

I found nothing useful in any of your articles that would help prevent an attack by a dangerous person on a private school or daycare center. Do you have any security experts to consult?
