Top Tips for Teaching Kids About Fire Safety

Wednesday September 27, 2006
October is the traditional month for teaching (or reinforcing) fire safety, but my youngest child has already brought several papers home on recommended family discussions about this very important issue. These fire safety flyers serve as a great reminder to have age-appropriate conversations about escape routes, how to feel the way to safety in case of smoke, and how and when to dial 9-1-1. Child care providers often schedule visits to area fire stations, so ask yours if plans are in the works for this invaluable lesson. I've already made my plans to have a family chat with my youngest children reminding them how to escape from a window in our two-story house.
