Child Identities Need Protection Too

Wednesday April 5, 2006
You hear about adults becoming victims of identity theft practically every day in the news, but don't forget that innocent kids often get their identities stolen as well. Kid identity theft can cause huge issues years from the time of occurrence when a child tries to open an account or get a first credit card. Sometimes, that is the first time anyone realized there was a problem. Parents should take precautions in helping to protect their children's identities. Child care providers can also assist by informing parents as to the reasons certain information is required but also in how the information is being stored securely and what procedure are regarding document retention and destruction.
