Week of the Young Child
Monday April 4, 2005
This is the Week of the Young Child, and this year's theme carries the message, "Children's Opportunities--Our Responsibilities." The Week of the Young Child by the National Association for the Education of Young Children is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment--at home, at child care, at school, and in the community--that will promote their early learning.
The NAEYP offers these key facts: working families need child care and supportive employer policies to be able to meet the needs of their young children throughout the day; children, especially those from low-income families, need better access to high-quality early childhood programs; and, too many children in the United States live in poverty, without good nutrition and health care.
