Keep Cords of Window Shades and Blinds Out Of Reach of Small Hands

From Robin McClure, About.com GuideDecember 1, 2004

When my youngest son was about 2 years old, he successfully yanked down a window blind at a home of a neighbor because the cord was dangling at eye-level. It served as a wake-up safety call, and I did an immediate safety inspection of cords on window shades and blinds in my own home. How about you? Here are tips for keeping cords out of little hands.

Cellular shades are becoming a very popular form of window blinds. Many come in elegant honeycomb designs that provide excellent insulating properties while providing light diffusion and that extra touch of privacy you need. Tropical window coverings come in such woods as rattan, bamboo, reed, jutes, and woven woods, and installation is as easy as 1-2-3. When it comes to tropical blinds, you will find styles with solid, integrated wood, head rail designs.
