Add Another Shot To the Vaccine List
Saturday May 29, 2004
A few weeks ago, I took my son to the pediatrician for his four-year-old well child visit. Forty-five minutes later, I left with a sobbing child bearing a Buzz Lightyear band-aid on each leg and on one arm as the result of vaccinations. I am a huge advocate of keeping vaccinations up-to-date because I believe that in most instances, they are in the best interest of the health and safety of children. Now, it seems, we need to add another one to our list.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has expanded its annual influenza vaccine recommendations for young children to include children ages 6 months to 2 years beginning this fall. Household and out-of-home providers for such children are also recommended to receive the annual influenza vaccine, as well as children with certain medical conditions, such as asthma. Read more about the new recommendations and the flu vaccine.
